Katie Gaddis is a Longmont native and a popular and inspiring teacher at Longmont High School. She received her BA from the University of Colorado, Boulder in an individually structured major titled, “The Tradition and Non-Tradition Women’s Leadership Roles and Principles,” and her MA from Denver University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Urban Education and Teaching Socially and Linguistically Diverse Populations. She is currently pursuing her EdD with a focus on education and how privilege and bias affect the educational system.
Her dream is to open up a school and write books about her heroes and sheroes- her students and their shared experiences. |
She has lived in Denver and taught for 6 years at Northglenn High School in conjunction with the Boettcher Teachers Program. She returned to the St Vrain Valley School District, first at Niwot and when she heard there was an opening at Longmont High School, she jumped at the chance to return home to the pIace that shaped her. Entering her 11th year as an educator, Katie knew that the time was now to acquire the education to not only have a say about issues of equity and justice, but the ethos to implore others to listen.
“As a 2000 Longmont High School graduate myself, I know that to come back to the great Trojan Dome is the best job and opportunity I could ever imagine; I am blessed to work at the best high school in Colorado.”
She is certified to teach ESL and Social Studies, but her heart belongs to literature and the study of language, stories, and people who tell them. Born and raised in Longmont, she has always felt a deep love for this community and the people within it. She feels it is a great honor to return home and give back to the place and people that have given her so much.
